| 6/7---Left the sweet home in NJ around 1pm, and headed to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Passed the rural west Pennsylvania and Ohio. Finally got to Ann Arbor at midnight.
6/8---Walked around the Whole Foods across the street from Jane's apartment. Felt super scared about the future while I tried to find lunch. Decided I should save $ for the future, so I passed on lunch. Made some $ in the afternoon. Had a nice dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings and watched the Mavs kill the Heat.
6/9--- Started driving with Jane around noon. St Louis was the destination. Passed a lil bit of Indiana, Illinois and entered Missouri. Destiny took me past Champaign-Urbana. I still have the feeling I might follow the steps of my family, and go there to get some kind of degree. Went to Tucker's Place for its famous steak. Very surprised how small St Louis is. Had the worst time finding our hotel. Finally got there, and they only had smoking King size bed rooms. Stayed on the sofa bed even though the suite was pretty nice.
6/10---the longest drive of the trip, and prolly the most boring part. Drove past Kansas City, and had very very good Mongolian stir Fry at BD's. Very surprised a shopping center in Kansas would have such exotic cuisine. After that, we drove past 5-6 hrs of NOTHING. All we saw were a bunch of fields, cows, horses and NADA. Very very flat. the plan was to stay at a town near the border of Colorado and Kansas. Goodland, Kansas was the town, and 20 mins before we got there, there was a severe thunder storm warning. I called the hotel and asked if the town was ok, and the lady told me the storm was north of them. I trusted her and kept on driving and we drove into the biggest storm I have ever seen. Since there was nothing but fields, we could see the lightening develop in the clouds, and BAM, it would hit some tree or field. although Jane assured me the safest place to be was in a car, I was scared to death the lightening would hit a tree next to us and somehow kill us. Finally got to the hotel...was too scared to dine out, so we just had pizza delivered. the person taking orders had the worst accent...couldnt understand a thing he was saying...he prolly thought the same about me, but at least the pizza was great.
6/11---Woke up early to drive to Denver to watch the Rockies host the Dodgers. I was hoping to talk to Kuo again before the game, but we missed his warm up. Bought their best seats available, and we were in the 2nd level club area. It was awesome. We could stay in the air conditioned dining area before the game for $45/ ticket. It's a steal considering the ticket prices in NY and Boston. After the game, we entered the rockie mountains. That part of the trip prolly shortened the life of my poor accord. Jane had to keep changing gears so we could get up the hills. The views were awesome though. That was prolly the prettiest part of the trip. Stayed at Grand Junction, CO. Was going to have dinner at a bar and watch the game, but when we got there, the Heat was already up by 25, so I gave up on it. Worst hotel of the trip was there. Priceline's 3 star was worse than the 2 star in the middle of nowhere Kansas.
6/12---Jane wanted to go to the Rosemary's for lunch in Vegas, so she planned to wake up at 5 to start driving. However, my teeth grinding kept her up the whole night, so we decided to sleep in and get to Vegas for dinner. Passed Utah and Arizona. Utah had very interesting views too. All the mountains turned Redish. It was tough on the car too until we reached AZ. AZ was just HOTTTTTT. If I do it again, I would choose to drive through AZ and Nevada at night. Vegas was gorgeous as usual, but it had a totally feeling driving into it instead of flying over the sin city. Had buffet at the Wynn. Jane didnt like it as much. She prefers the Paris buffet better. Took her to the Fremont Street experience downtown after dinner. We both realized the light shows were made for country people, who have never seen so many lights in their lives. For us, it was just NYC or Taipei at night. Took Jane to the airport after the show. It was really sad to say goodbye to her. It was the first time ever that I drove her to the airport. I felt like crying when she was entering the security check point, and I didnt want to leave until she disappears in the crowd. After all that emotion, I decided it was time to relax and unwind in the sin city. =D
6/13-6/15---Did the usual Vegas things. The hotel really surprised me. It was in the bad area of town, but the room was extraodinary for $35/night. If it's on the strip, the room itself would be at least 4 stars. 1 morning around 5am, I walked back into the hotel and found myself in a weird spot. The valet told me I should buy a drink and enjoy the scenery. The lobby and the bar area turned into a hangout place for the "entertainers" getting off work from their clubs across the street. There were lots of hot women just talking and playing with each other. I finally understood why the hotel was said to be in a "bad area" of town, but I didnt mind the least. My drinks there would have cost me couple hundred if I had gone across the street.
6/16---The last leg of my trip was to drive through the dessert and get to Irvine. Passed the Death Valley on the way. I almost melted when I stopped for gas. Tried Jack in the Box for the first time. I still dont know if I like Carl or Jack better. Irvine is as great as I remembered. I hope I will stay here for awhile.
6/17---Met up with Eric and Mango and his gf, Vivian in the afternoon. Vivian was exactly what I imagined her to be. Nice Nice Nice girl and the way Eric likes it =D. We hung out at the Commerce Casino for some 1/2 7 card stud. I was dissapointed at how sad the casino looked. It is nothing like the Vegas or even the AC casinos. Fooling around playing 1/2 stud was fun, but the casino grinded away everyone's chips with its HIGH rake. After that, Eric suggested I join his family for dinner. I didnt want to at first, but he managed to persuade me out of the biggest mistake of my life. His family took me to have the famous abalones from HK. The dinner included all the Chinese delicacies- abalone, shark fin and birds nest. It was a dinner of a life time. Also present at dinner was one of the hottest girls I have ever met. She had this huge rock on her finger and a pretty pretty Cartier watch on her wrist. I couldnt resist but to stare at them between the awesome dishes. =P
Went to a house party at night. Hung out with my awesome housemate, Jenny, and her friends. From their conversations, it seems like there is a huge difference between the east and west coast Asians. I think I moved to the right side of the continent. =D
I am still getting used to the crazy LA traffic, but if I can get past that, hopefully, I will have a great time here.
